How to Live in Your Car

silver minivan-esque car

I’ve been nomadic for years and after getting tired of living in other people’s houses (Airbnbs mostly), I decided to buy a car to explore Europe. I realize that these days (circa 2026) many people are:

a) being forced into homelessness and living in their cars by the economy

b) exploring alternate ways of living with less

I want to share what I’m learning as I go, in the hope that it helps others. I realize I’m very priveledged to be taking this journey by choice.

In 2025 I started thinking about van life. Fell down a rabbit hole, watched tons of YT videos, but due to some travel commitments I’d made, I wasn’t able to do it just yet.

That year of thinking about it was so valuable, as it gave me time to dream, plan, try on ideas and then cast them aside.

When the time to make a decision got dcloser, I realized that with my AuDHD, I have a long track record of jumping into things with the most intense of passions only to discard the idea shortly after – lots of money down the drain.

I didn’t want to do this here. I didn’t have $20-50K to invest ina van, nor did I fancy the idea of using one to navigate narrow European streets after not having spent much time driving over the previous 10 years. I got fascinated by people living in their minivans and cars and decided to go for something smaller.

I was looking in the minivan range when I found my car, Nella (my mini-minivan I call her). She’s a 5-seater but minivan shaped and just tall enough for me to lay down in behind the passenger seat.

I bought her for under $5K and we’ve been on the road since July 2026. I’m doing my best to capture things early before I forget. If you have questions, please look for the contact page in the footer and send me an email.
